Bitter end: Paolini also loses the double final

Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini also lost her second final at this year's French Open in Paris. After losing the singles final on Saturday, there was nothing to gain in the doubles on Sunday either.

The 28-year-old Paolini also missed the doubles title in the last match one day after her clear two-set defeat against the Pole Iga Swiatek. In the final on Sunday, Paolini and her compatriot Sara Errani were defeated by US star Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic 6:7 (5:7), 3:6.

Gauff won her first doubles title in her third Grand Slam final. In the singles, the US Open winner failed in the semifinals against the eventual winner Swiatek. For Siniakova, however, it was already the eighth doubles triumph on the Grand Slam stage; she had all won the previous seven titles with ex-partner Barbora Krejcikova.

The Italian tennis players were unable to crown their overall successful tournament at the Stade Roland Garros. Previously, the future world number one Jannik Sinner from South Tyrol had failed in the men's semifinals against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. In the men's doubles on Saturday, Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori suffered a final defeat against Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador and Mate Pavic from Croatia.
