Tennis star Jannik Sinner at Kronplatz.

“Competition for Odermatt”: A Sinner video goes viral

Jannik Sinner spent Christmas in his hometown of Sesto. Of course, a visit to the ski slopes couldn't be missed. A video has now gone viral.

When Jannik Sinner is on vacation at home in winter, one thing is certain: the Sesto tennis star will be seen on the ski slopes. This year was no different. The fourth in the world rankings spent Christmas in the Pustertal, and of course there was a detour into the snow. Sinner indulged in his passion, skiing, at Kronplatz and posted a short clip on social media. The video immediately became a hit there.

Not only that numerous fans were impressed by Sinner's driving skills. Some stars of the sports scene also spoke up. Ski queen Lindsey Vonn, who knows Sinner personally and has already skied with him, commented with three flames, as did Manuela Mölgg.

And the clip also made the rounds in the media. The Swiss View was even headlined: "This tennis ace could have competed with Marco Odermatt (reigning overall World Cup winner, editor's note)." The article describes that Sinner used to be a gifted skier who also competed and won races. In the end he decided on tennis.

Now we're off to Australia

And the South Tyrolean is now one of the best in the world in that sport. Sinner himself wrote about the video: “I missed it (skiing, editor's note) a lot, but now it's time to return to the court.” The first big highlight of the season for the Sesto native will be in January of the year, when the Australia Open will take place in Melbourne from January 14th.
