Doping ban, yes or no? Sinner knows the deadline

Much has been speculated and written about this in recent months: Will Jannik Sinner be banned for doping or not? Now the number 1 in the world of tennis knows when the decision will be made.

Sinner tested positive twice for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol in March 2024. The Sextner was not banned because, according to the responsible agency Itia, no intentional fault or negligence could be proven. Sinner had explained that the banned substance entered his body via the hands of his physiotherapist during a massage.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed against the acquittal and demanded a ban of one to two years. The case is now before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. This Friday it was announced that the CAS on April 16 and 17 will decide whether Sinner will be banned or not – and if so, for how long. The hearing will take place behind closed doors.

The Question of the Year

In more than three months, the sporting world will know about the Sinner case. Initially, there was speculation that the decision would be made in February. From South Tyrol's point of view, it is of course the question of the year whether the best local athlete of all time will be punished or not. In mid-April, i.e. at the time of the hearing, Sinner was registered for the ATP 500 tournament in Munich for the first time.
