Without losing a set: Sinner marches into the final!

He is the big favorite in Sofia. Jannik Sinner (ATP 14) is currently doing full justice to this role. The top seed from Sesto also won the semi-final against the Serbian Filip Krajinovic (ATP 10) 37:6, 3:7 at the place where he won his first ATP tournament 5 months ago. This means that Sinner is in the final – and with a clean slate: the 20-year-old has not given up a set in the entire tournament.

In the final, Sinner will face 15.30-year-old Frenchman Gaël Monfils (ATP 35) on Sunday at 20:XNUMX p.m. The two professionals have faced each other three times so far, with the youngster winning twice, most recently in one spectacular third round match at the US Open.

Sinner is in the final of an ATP tournament for the fifth time (and fourth time this year). His record so far: three wins, one defeat. On Saturday evening he deservedly won in two sets in the semi-final against Krajinovic. As was the case throughout the tournament, Sinner had brilliant moments against the Serb, but also difficult situations, from which he always maneuvered skillfully. He was 2:5 behind in the second set, but fought back impressively and secured victory. Strong start Sinner started like the fire department and seemed lively, agile and eager to play. In addition, the Sesto native served excellently and was very callous when presented with opportunities. The result: He promptly took Krajinovic's serve and moved ahead to 4-1. The subsequent change of sides, including a short break, caused the 20-year-old to lose his rhythm for a moment, so that he gave up the service himself (3:4), but promptly made the re-break in the following game. While Sinner kept the error rate very low, he repeatedly pushed the Serb to the limits with his powerful punches. After 40 minutes, the Sesto player used his first set point to make it 6:3 – a strong performance so far.

However, that changed at the beginning of the second period, or rather in the third game. When Krajinovic served, the two tennis professionals had a festival of errors that lasted around 10 minutes. Sinner missed three break opportunities and lost this game. That obviously gnawed at him, because as a result the coolness that had characterized the youngster in the first set was gone. Sinner made a lot of unforced errors and because the Serb got better and better into the game, the world number 14 was suddenly behind with a break and 2:5. As in the quarter-finals against James Duckworth, Sinner showed a fighting spirit, quickly got the break back (to zero!) and equalized to 5:5. In the end the opponent was defenseless After that, things got strange: In the eleventh game – which set the trend – Sinner's opponent suddenly had problems with his right foot. Apparently his big toe was giving him trouble - so bad that he gave up the game and couldn't do anything afterwards. After 1.43 hours, Sinner closed the match with an ace against the now defenseless Krajinovic and made it to the final.
