Jannik Sinner looking for the right tactics

Ben Shelton was yesterday, Daniil Medvedev is tomorrow. Jannik Sinner is going into his rest day at Wimbledon with this motto in mind. Even though a scene from the last match still makes him smile.

Just minutes after his clear three-set victory against Ben Shelton, Jannik Sinner grinned on the court with the microphone in his hand. "That was just luck. Sometimes it happens... oh, what can I say? It was just a lucky reflex," said the world's best tennis player with a smile.

Sinner had just scored a fundamental point with a spectacular shot between his own legs, opening the door to the quarter-finals. The video of the scene has since gone viral on the Internet. While tennis fans celebrate the action, the protagonist himself has long since turned his focus to the next tasks.

Shelton match is ticked off

The match against US talent Shelton was analyzed relatively quickly. "It was a difficult match, especially in the third set. I'm glad that I got through it relatively quickly, as matches like this can drag on."

Not only Sinner is making it to the quarterfinals without any major exertion, but also his next opponent, the Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP 5). In the round of 10 against Grigor Dimitrov (ATP XNUMX), he didn't even finish a set before the latter retired due to injury. Sinner has of course also noticed this, expecting "a really tactical match" and preparing for "a physical duel with long rallies". Medvedev has the ability to hit incredibly flat balls. He serves and returns very well, says Sinner.
“I have to think carefully about how I’m going to play my game.” Jannik Sinner

The curious fact that Medvedev won the first six encounters, but Sinner has always emerged victorious in the last five duels, is unlikely to impress the 22-year-old from Pustertal. His entire concentration is on the current match, the twelfth between the two exceptional talents. "The day in between is extremely important. I will use the time to prepare well and think carefully about how I will align my game."

On Tuesday (SportNews ticks live) will then show whether Sinner has chosen the right tactics and will make it to the penultimate round for the second time in his third Wimbledon quarter-final in a row. There he could face a top duel with Carlos Alcaraz.
