Next tournament victory: Sinner’s dream year continues

Jannik Sinner is simply unstoppable: The Sextner celebrated his fifth tournament victory this year in Cincinnati.

Sinner is simply a winner. The world number 1 gave local hero Frances Tiafoe almost no chance in the final of the Masters tournament in the USA and won comfortably with 7:6(4) and 6:2. In the direct duel with the world number 20, Sinner is now 4:1.

A quick look at the game: Tiafoe was in the final of a Masters tournament for the first time. The 26-year-old held up well in the first set and forced Sinner to fend off three break points. But you always had the feeling that the Pusterer could step up a gear when it mattered. This is exactly what Sinner showed in the tiebreak and thus won the first set.

In the second set, the 23-year-old Tiafoe took the first serve. From that moment on, Sinner didn't let anyone take the butter off his bread. With the score at 5:1, the South Tyrolean missed three match points before sealing the deal one game later and after a total of just 1:38 hours of play.

Sinner's stats are incredible

Even before the final, it was clear that Sinner would remain number 29 in the world until at least September 1th. Now the Sextner has extended his lead even further. "It was a difficult week for me. Physically and mentally. In the final, we were both still tired from the day before. I had a lot of ups and downs this week, but I was there in the important moments. Now I want to regenerate well for New York. The US Open is a big goal of mine," said Sinner after his third Masters title.

The tournament victory in Cincinnati brings Sinner a total of 1.000 world ranking points. His lead over Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz is 2.300 and 2.400 points respectively. It is quite possible that he will not give up his place in the sun until the end of the year. His injured hip was also not noticeable in the final. For Sinner, it was his 15th tournament victory at ATP level. So he has celebrated a third of them this year - hats off! Sinner's full focus is now on the US Open, which begins on Monday.
