On his hip injury and the associated withdrawal from the Internazionali d'Italia, the prestigious Masters tournament in Rome, Sinner had already made a detailed statement in a press conference on Sunday. Early on Monday evening there should have been a happy occasion for the 22-year-old South Tyrolean in the Eternal City. But it did not get to that.
Jannik Sinner had to cancel his participation in a pompously planned celebration for Italy's Davis Cup heroes from last year at short notice. He was lying in his hotel room in Rome with a sore throat and a fever of 39 degrees, while his doubles partner Lorenzo Sonego, captain Filippo Volandri, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi and Co. were celebrating at the Center Court in the Foro Italico.

However, Matteo Berettini, who was injured at the Davis Cup triumph in Malaga and was only present as a spectator, said a few words towards Sinner at the ceremony. “We also have to thank Jannik, without him the Davis Cup victory might not have been possible,” said Berrettini

Sinner himself now has to get fit again as quickly as possible and cure his hip problems in time for the French Open (from May 26th). First of all, however, there are autograph and PR appointments on the sidelines of the tournament in Rome this Tuesday - if his health allows it.
