More than three weeks have passed since the Sexton player withdrew from the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. Since then, the world number 2. everything to recover from the hip injury and be able to play in Paris. That was successful, as Sinner will face Christopher Eubanks in his first round match on Monday.
“I’m no longer worried about my hip,” emphasized the South Tyrolean on Friday at the PK. At the same time he also said: “Of course I’m not 100 percent. But we can't do miracles. I know that I can play good tennis in my current condition.”
Sinner dampens expectations
Sinner has played points in the training sessions over the last three days and is confident that “I will improve day by day.” This statement gives hope that the hip injury has been overcome and that it is currently just a question of match toughness. “But at the moment it’s not important to make it to the second week or fight for the title. I don’t think about that.”He decided to compete in Paris “because it is an important tournament, a Grand Slam. And if my body allows me, I want to be there,” said Sinner. How the Sesto native's fitness is going will become clear on Monday when he takes part in the tournament. It is almost certain that he will play on the biggest court, i.e. on the Court Philippe-Chatrier. However, it is unclear whether it will be scheduled for the night session, especially since the big match between Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev also takes place on Monday.
