“This victory is for my aunt, she is not well”

After his triumph at the US Open, Jannik Sinner became emotional. In front of an audience of millions, the Sexten superstar spoke words that deeply touched the tennis world.

Jannik Sinner is a family man through and through. The Puschtra Bui emphasizes again and again in interviews how important his loved ones are to him. When the 23-year-old won the Australian Open in January this year, his first Grand Slam tournament, he said in front of millions of viewers: "I wish everyone could have parents like me."

Now Jannik Sinner has won his second major tournament, this time in New York. And again, millions of tennis fans around the globe watched as, after his dominant triumph over Taylor Fritz, he took the microphone at the victory ceremony and sent an emotional message to his hometown of Sesto.

“It’s nice that I can share this moment with my aunt.” Jannik Sinner

"This victory," said Sinner, "is for my aunt. She is not well at the moment and I don't know how much longer I will have her in my life. It is nice that I can share this moment with her. Above the tennis court there is always life and health. If I can express one wish, it is health for everyone." These were moving words from Sinner, who was fighting back tears at the moment.

It is statements like these that show that despite his huge successes, Jannik Sinner has remained the down-to-earth Puschtra Bui. And this despite the fact that the tennis world has been at his feet since his US Open triumph.

A difficult time

In the big winner's interview, Sinner also spoke about the past few months, which have left their mark on him. The Sextner was famously involved in a doping case, which robbed him of a lot of energy and caused him several sleepless nights.

"After months that were very hard for me, this title means a lot to me," said the world number one. "I thank all the people who were close to me. Thanks also to the audience in New York who supported me in these difficult moments and were very sincere." Words from a true champion!
