A German and a Norwegian celebrate winning World Cup gold

Despite the heated discussions that always accompanied the parallel competitions at the Alpine Ski World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel, the actual races are always full of spectacle. This was also the case on Wednesday afternoon, when Marie Therese Tviberg for women and Alexander Schmid for men were crowned celebrated world champions.

In the grand final, Schmid benefited from a mistake by his competitor Dominik Raschner from Austria, who was already 0,50 seconds behind in the first round. Schmid also delivered an extremely strong performance in the second run and didn't give the Austrian the slightest chance (+0,90). Bronze went to Timon Haugan from Norway, who narrowly defeated Adrian Pertl from Austria in an exciting small final (+0,19).

In the end, Tviberg celebrated for the women. The Norwegian remained flawless throughout the entire race and gave Wendy Holdener no chance in the final (+0,67). In the small final, Thea Louise Stjernesund from Norway won the bronze medal after her competitor Marie Lamure from France, like in the semi-finals, failed to finish, much to the annoyance of the home fans. That meant gold and bronze for Norway in the women's event.

Azzurri remain pale Alex Vinatzer, on the other hand, once again fell victim to his high willingness to take risks - out of necessity. After the first run, the South Tyrolean was still within striking distance of his opponent Zan Kranjec (+0.19), but then made a serious mistake in the second run. With 2,13 seconds behind the Slovenian, the round of XNUMX was over.

Marta Bassino and Filippo Della Vite suffered the same fate, having been defeated by Marie Lamure and Alexander Schmid respectively. Azzurra in particular, as defending champion and Super-G world champion, fell far short of expectations. Luca De Aliprandini failed in the quarterfinals against Adrian Pertl.
