The name Tifany Roux shouldn't be a big household name for ski fans. The Frenchwoman competed 13 times in the World Cup, she took part in one World Championship and spent most of her career in the European Cup. And yet her retirement from the ski stage caused a stir.
“My passion for skiing is huge, but I have to face a sad reality: my desire to make progress in the World Cup cannot happen without the support of association coaches,” writes Roux in an emotional Instagram message.
Excluded from the squad
What the 26-year-old speed specialist means by that: A year ago she was kicked out of the national team and fought through a season on her own. Although she performed well in the European Cup this year and was even able to win, there was no place for Roux in the squad.Tiffany Roux in action. © AFP / FABRICE COFFRINI
“After long weeks of reflection, I realized that year after year this struggle had become too much for me,” she says. That's why the Frenchwoman has now drawn a line in the sand - but only in alpine skiing.
Now she is becoming a ski crosser
There's a little catch to the whole thing: Tifany Roux doesn't stop completely, but instead changes sports. In the future, the downhill skier will compete in ski cross.“I was offered ski cross and I still have the excitement of being an elite athlete. I would like to take the opportunity to experience new things. “It can teach me new things about skiing in general and also about myself,” she says Le Dauphine. Bye Bye Alpine Skiing, Hello Skicross – that is Tifany Roux’s motto.
