“A little miracle”: German ex-ski star is a mother

The ski family is growing and growing: A former German slalom skier recently became a mother.

Marina Wallner was once among the best German slalom skiers in the World Cup. The now 31-year-old participated in the Olympic Games, competed in World Championships, and achieved a seventh-place finish as her best World Cup result. However, her career ended prematurely – at the age of 26. Numerous injuries and ultimately mononucleosis forced Wallner to retire at the prime of her skiing career.

The German woman, however, immediately embarked on a new life. She began training to become a physiotherapist. However, Wallner will be taking things a bit easier in the coming months: she recently became a mother for the first time.

“Welcome to the world, little miracle,” Wallner wrote in her Instagram post. Her husband, Florian, shares in the former ski racer's joy: the couple married in May 2025 and have now started a family. This is also why Marina now goes by the surname Fischbacher.
