Austrian ski star pulls the ripcord

Ski racer Cornelia Hütter will miss the World Cup finals next week in Courchevel/Meribel. The Styrian had a serious fall at the finish jump in the World Cup downhill in Crans-Montana on February 27th, suffering a concussion and whiplash and slightly damaging both knees. Of course, she would have liked to take part in the last races, but it would be wiser to accept the doctors' advice, she said in an online media interview on Wednesday.

She is already getting along well in everyday life, but she spent the first week after the fall in almost complete darkness because of sensitivity to noise and light. She suffered bone marrow edema (“bone bruise”) in both knees, but the left one otherwise “weathered the fall perfectly.” On the right, she wears a splint to immobilize her so that the inner ligament can attach itself to the joint again, as it has come loose. After the fall, in which she briefly became unconscious, she didn't know where she was for fifteen minutes, and that scared her. This memory came back, but not the one about the fall, which is why she watched it - also to stop the cinema in her head. “It was a clear driving error, you can't go into the curve like that if there's a jump afterwards.” The fall was a thing of the past for her, she assured, also because she doesn't associate herself with the person who fell.
