After the cancellation of the women's downhill on Saturday, there will be no race on Sunday either. First, the procedure before the race was postponed by an hour and the start time of the World Cup downhill on the “Gran Becca” slope was rescheduled at 12.30 p.m. with the start in Switzerland and the finish in Cervinia (Italy). Finally, shortly before noon on Sunday, the final cancellation followed due to strong gusts of wind. The safety of the athletes would no longer be guaranteed, especially in the area of some jumps.
Four South Tyrolean women were nominated for the first downhill race of the season, the rejection is particularly bitter for Vicky Bernardi. The woman from Val Badia had a strong training session and would have celebrated her debut in the World Cup.
Last year, no World Cup races were possible on the Matterhorn due to the weather, this year both men's downhill runs were canceled the previous week - now both women's downhill runs have also fallen victim to the wind. Of 8 planned races, 8 had to be canceled - an inglorious record.
While the Departure of the men in Val Gardena could be rescheduled, there is still no alternative date for the women's departure.
