"It's so important to share our birth stories," Mancuso writes on Instagram. "With my first child, I didn't even know where to start. I was induced early, which resulted in an unnecessary c-section." She then talked to other mothers about home births. This exchange ultimately led her to decide to have her third child at home.
On the day of the birth, Mancuso's partner, Dylan Fish, was responsible for setting up the pool. "I just followed my instincts," says Mancuso. Although the contractions weren't painful at first, they went faster than expected: "I thought the birth would drag on forever because the contractions weren't very intense. But as soon as I was in the pool, baby Rise was ready to come into the world."
