FIS confirmed Sölden wildcard for Hirscher

The International Ski Federation (FIS) has confirmed Marcel Hirscher’s eligibility to participate in the Alpine World Cup opening in Sölden.

The wildcard application submitted by the Dutch association in the summer has been accepted, the FIS confirmed after its autumn meeting on Friday. However, no decision has yet been made regarding wildcards for the other World Cup races taking place in the World Cup winter.


"As part of the discussions, it was confirmed that the Dutch Federation's request for a wildcard for Marcel Hirscher, which was submitted this summer, is valid and in accordance with the rules. This means that Hirscher is entitled to start in the first race in Sölden," said an FIS statement. The giant slalom in Tyrol will take place on October 27.

The eight-time overall World Cup winner Hirscher is about to make his comeback after a break of several years. Recently there had been discussions about whether the exemption granted in July for returnees who, according to the FIS rankings, were not immediately eligible to compete in the World Cup not effective for the entire season could be.
