Goodbye, slalom: ski star breaks with his old love

Alexis Pinturault has reached the podium in a World Cup slalom 12 times, including three times to the top. He was also crowned combined world champion twice, mainly due to his excellent slalom part. But now Stangenwald is over for the Frenchman: He has made a brave decision and will no longer compete in this discipline in the future.

“It's time to get back on the slopes. But this year without short skis. Slalom has given me many beautiful moments, challenges and successes: victories, podiums and triumphs in the Alpine Combined. But for the last part of my career I want to renew myself,” writes the 32-year-old on social networks.

Now there are more speed races In the case of Alexis Pinturault, renewal means: He now focuses entirely on the speed disciplines. “Speed was always a part of skiing that I loved, but unfortunately I always didn't have the time. I want to change that now. I have a lot to discover, learn and grow. But I find the idea exciting: Having a new calendar also means finding a new way of working,” says Pinturault.

At the same time, the Frenchman also makes it clear. “Giant slalom will remain 100 percent in my program. After all, you don’t give up on your first love. We’ll see each other on the skis soon,” said Pinturault. So it's a big change that is coming to the former overall World Cup winner. It will be interesting to see whether this new idea from Alexis Pinturault will be successful. There is no doubt that he has talent in the speed disciplines. In February, the Frenchman won the bronze medal in the World Cup Super-G.
