Italy's ski scene mourns the loss of a great coach

Italian skiing has lost one of its greatest coaches ever.

Piermario Calcamuggi died at the weekend aged 74 after his health deteriorated following heart surgery. Calcamuggi was technical director of the successful women's team of the early 90s, consisting of Deborah Compagnoni, Lara Magoni, Isolde Kostner and Sabina Panzanini, which enjoyed great success at the Olympic Games in Albertville 1992 and Lillehammer '94, as well as the memorable triple victory in the giant slalom in Narvik '96.

Calcamuggi is also remembered by fans for his past as a technical voice at RAI: ​​his daughter Elisa has been a well-known and valued face at Sky Sport for many years. Calcamuggi died on Sunday in hospital in Turin.
