Karoline Pichler is familiar with cruciate ligament tears. The woman from Petersberg has suffered this serious injury to her left knee twice. That's why she knew exactly on January 30th that "something had happened," as she describes it herself. Considering the situation, this wasn't bad news for Karoline Pichler. If the cruciate ligament had completely torn, an operation and a break of several months would have been unavoidable. But the 28-year-old is competing in a World Cup race again after just three weeks. How is this possible?

Good muscles and stability “The cruciate ligament is still hanging together, although the MRI images don't show exactly how much. It can be two percent, it can be 25 percent. But the fact is that everything else in the knee is intact, i.e. the meniscus and collateral ligaments are not affected. Will an operation be necessary in the future? “If it works like this now, then it always works,” said the Petersberg native, who made a determined decision before the downhill run (Saturday) and the Super-G (Sunday, both at 11 a.m.): “I’m here to ski quickly to drive, and not just to be there.” Because Karoline Pichler still has a big goal this season: “I want to qualify for the World Cup final.”
