Alta Badia: Odermatt following in the footsteps of the greats

Marco Odermatt is slowly but surely running out of superlatives: The Swiss also won the second giant slalom in Alta Badia - and in an impressive way.

27th World Cup victory and 17th in giant slalom. In addition, the sixth success in this discipline across the season. Not even Marcel Hirscher managed that, only Ingemark Stenmark. One thing is certain: Marco Odermatt is following in the footsteps of the greats. Nothing seems impossible for the 26-year-old. In the all-time best list of World Cup victories, Odermatt has now overtaken Franz Kammer and Ivica Kostelic. In Alta Badia, only Hirscher Hirscher has won more times (eight times!) than Odermatt, who drew level with Alberto Tomba with his fourth victory on the Gran Risa.

On Monday, “Odi” once again made the competition look old. Second-placed Marco Schwarz was 1,05 seconds behind at the finish. In the overall World Cup, “Blacki” is now 92 points behind the Swiss. Zan Kranjec from Slovenia came third again, while Croatian Filip Zubcic had to settle for fourth place this time.

An Azzurro also celebrates

The best Azzurro was Giovanni Borsotti, who improved to ninth place with a strong second run. The 33-year-old was then celebrated in the finish area. On his birthday, the audience sang loudly: “Happy Birthday Giovanni”. Only eight years ago in Val d'Isere, Borsotti had been better, finishing sixth in the giant slalom.

Alex Vinatzer also made a leap forward and took 21st place. The day before, the man from Val Gardena had taken 19th place. The men's ski world cup continues on Friday with the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. After Christmas the speed races in Bormio are on the program.
