Shiffrin and Vlhova dominate the rainy first run

In challenging piste conditions, Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova drove away from everyone in the Courchevel slalom. The decision starts in the French Alps at 20.45:XNUMX p.m.

The fourth of eleven women's slaloms was on the program in Courchevel (France) on Thursday. In the posh winter sports resort, Mikaela Shiffrin set the fastest time in the snow in the first round. The only one who could hold a candle to the American was Petra Vlhova (+0,17) from Slovakia, whose coach Mauro Pini had set the difficult run. The Austrian Katharina Liensberger (+1,06) took third place, already more than a second behind in the second run.

It had already rained lightly in Courchevel before the race. With the first runners the drops became thicker and thicker. The result: extremely soft snow that became slower with every swing. Shiffrin and Vlhova made efficient use of their starting numbers 1 and 2 and moved ahead of the rest of the field. The later athletes were left with a big deficit, especially in the final rotating section, although the two slalom winners this season also did not make any mistakes.

The victory should therefore be decided between the US star and her Slovakian competitor. Shiffrin is chasing his third success in the fourth slalom race of the season in France. Last winter she won six of the eleven slaloms and was on the podium in four others. It seems as if Mikaela Shiffrin's dominance will continue in Courchevel if the piste doesn't completely collapse in the second round (20.45 p.m.).

Only Rossetti in the second round

And the Azzurre? They faced a difficult task in France. The rain and the slopes got worse with every minute. The first athlete from the boot state to plunge into the soaking wet slope was with start number 26 new Italian technology hope Marta Rossetti, who lost 2,77 seconds to Shiffrin. This was enough for 21st place and qualification for the second run. None of the remaining seven Azzurres, including Vera Tschurtschenthaler, made it into the second round.
