Sofia Goggia: A wild holiday on the other side of the world

Ski superstar Sofia Goggia has taken a break – and enjoyed a slightly different kind of holiday.

After a long, intense ski season, it's time for many of the sport's stars to get away, far, far away! Early May is vacation time. Most ski aces travel with their partner, some set off with their best friend. But not Sofia Goggia. This year, the Bergamasque skier has opted for an adventurous vacation on the other side of the world – with complete strangers.

Goggia reported on Instagram that she had flown to the Philippines with a tour group. "Setting off on a journey full of adventure, knowing that you will share it with people you didn't know before," the traveler wrote, posting a series of photos. They show Goggia relaxing on a beautiful beach, playing basketball with children, and strolling through the landscape with her travel companions, each carrying a backpack.

“Every day excursions, simple, sometimes somewhat rustic little accommodations where you occasionally ask yourself why you're putting yourself through this – and then… discovering the beauty of breaking out of the familiar and experiencing something new. Always in simplicity,” is how Goggia describes her journey.

The 33-year-old, who won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, thoroughly enjoyed this adventurous journey. "Opening my ears, listening to other people's stories – that's something I love. And finally, being able to laugh so hard that it brings tears to your eyes."
