Large South Tyrolean squad in Adelboden

The Ski World Cup starts this weekend in 2024. While the men are in Adelboden, the women are at work in Kranjska Gora. Here you can find everything you need to know about it.

The men's World Cup starts with the classics. This weekend, Adelboden is just around the corner, followed by Wengen, Kitzbühel and Schladming. January is traditionally the slalom month. In Adelboden, too, the competition takes place in the pole forest. From a South Tyrolean perspective, Alex Vinatzer, Tobias Kastlunger, Simon Maurberger and Matteo Canins are there. In addition to Vinatzer and Kastlunger, Hannes Zingerle will also be taking part in the giant slalom on Saturday. So there are a total of five South Tyroleans in Adelboden.

Vinatzer probably has the best chance of a top placement in the slalom, although the native of Val Gardena is still struggling in his flagship discipline this year. Only in the first round of Madonna di Campiglio was he able to hint at his potential. While the role of favorite in the slalom is completely open, in the giant slalom Marco Odermatt is clearly the man to beat. Last year's winner will turn the Chuenisbärgli into a cauldron again.

A technology weekend is also on the program for the women in Kranjska Gora. Elisa Platino wants to collect World Cup points again in the giant slalom. The azure hopes rest primarily on Federica Brignone, who is in top form. Vera Tschurtschenthaler holds the South Tyrolean flag high in the slalom.
