Junior World Championships: These five South Tyroleans are fighting for medals

Following the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Anna Trocker already has her next major event on the schedule. She is one of five athletes from South Tyrol who have been nominated for the Junior World Championships in Narvik (Norway) from March 5th to 15th.

Even more so than the European Cup, the Junior World Championships serve as a springboard for great careers in the ski world. From Marco Odermatt to Henrik Kristoffersen to Petra Vlhova – they all became world champions at a young age. One who wants to follow in the footsteps of these ski legends is... Anna DryerThe 17-year-old has already competed in World Cup and Olympic events this season. Now she faces her next major goal for the season.

The task is no easy one, however, as Trocker will be competing in Narvik against athletes up to three years older, all of whom have World Cup experience. Among them is her compatriot Giorgia Collomb, who celebrated her first European Cup victory in the giant slalom just a few days ago in Oppdal and is the reigning world champion in this discipline. In addition to Trocker, two other South Tyrolean skiers, also only 17 years old, have been nominated: Victoria Klotz from Bolzano, who is at home in the technical disciplines, as well as Arianna Putzer from Wolkenstein. Besides the speed races, she will also compete in the giant slalom and the team combined event. Italy's team is completed by Ludovica Righi, Tatum Bieler, Camilla Vanni, and Sofia Amigoni.

Two South Tyroleans are also trying their luck in the men's competition. For the 20-year-old Jacob Franzelin For Montan, this is his second Junior World Championship, having competed in four disciplines last year in Tarvisio. His best result was a sixth-place finish in the team parallel event. A new face, however, is the 18-year-old... David Castlunger from Abtei. He is aiming for a strong result in the slalom and giant slalom. Pietro Broglio, Luca Riffinoni, Lorenzo Gerosa, Enrico Zucchini, Glauco Antonioli and Tomas Deambrogio complete Italy's team.

South Tyrol's medal tally

The last South Tyrolean medal at a Junior World Championship was won by Sara Thaler, who took bronze in the Super-G last year. The skier from Val Gardena is no longer eligible to compete this season. The last South Tyrolean world champion, however, is Max Perathoner, who won gold in both the Super-G and the team combined in 2024.
