Vonn overtaken: Shiffrin like clockwork

Mikaela Shiffrin has won the last five giant slaloms (including the World Cup). It was therefore not surprising that she was in the lead by over six tenths of a second after the first round. She didn't make a single mistake, was in a league of her own, especially in the middle section, and showed no signs of fatigue - in contrast to Sara Hector, Petra Vlhova and Federica Brignone, who all dropped out.

The 28-year-old was similarly focused on the decision. She achieved her 138th World Cup podium, overtaking Lindsey Vonn, achieved her 88th World Cup victory and was happy about a crowning end to the season.

Precision Landing Shiffrin had already secured the small crystal ball before the race, which is why she was able to appear freely in the decision. On the short but selective slope, she avoided the big risk, lost some time and ultimately saved six hundredths of a second across the finish line. Second place went to Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund, who made it onto the podium in a giant slalom for the first time. Still in 5th place at half time, she was close to tears after the race. Behind her, Valerie Grenier (Canada) was happy with third place. Marta Bassino slipped back to sixth place in the decision.

In addition to Shiffrin, Tessa Worley also rode into the spotlight on Sunday. The Frenchwoman ended her career just like her teammate Coralie Frasse-Sombet. After her final finish, she screamed a loud “Merci” into the camera and was celebrated by fans with chants.
