EC Reinswald: Ralph Weber wins super combination

Weber laid the foundation for the super combined victory on Thursday with the fastest downhill run. In the slalom, the 20-year-old from Gossau in the canton of St. Gallen left no stone unturned with his 24th running time 20 hours later and won in 1.56,49:0,23 minutes. He relegated his compatriot Nils Mani, who was also second behind Weber after the downhill run, to second place by 0,27 seconds, while Vincent Kriechmayer took third place with the best slalom performance, XNUMX seconds behind Weber.

For Weber it was the seventh European Cup podium in his career, the second victory and the first success in the super combined. Reinswald seems to bring the 1,87 meter tall, 103 kilogram speed specialist some luck, because two years ago Weber was on the “Stockerl” for the first time in the European Cup in the Sarnen ski area. Weber became junior world champion in the Super-G in 2012 and has eight World Cup appearances, including a 22nd place in the final of the Super-G in Schladming in 2012.

The Austrian Frederic Berthold, who has been on the podium five times in Reinswald in the last two years (including twice in the super combined), had to settle for fifth place on Friday.

The best “Azzurro” was Paolo Pangrazzi, who finished seventh, 0,81 seconds behind Weber. Pangrazzi was 0,02 seconds faster than the double downhill winner Silvan Zurbriggen and 0,03 seconds faster than Hagen Patscheider (Langtaufers), who finished ninth as the best South Tyrolean in the classification. The 26-year-old from Vinschger, who achieved the second-best running time in the slalom, is getting into better and better shape in his comeback season (he missed almost the entire season last year and had to undergo a spinal disc operation).

A Super-G was also planned for Friday at the end of the Sarn European Cup week. After a few postponements, however, it fell victim to fog and light snowfall and ultimately had to be canceled. “Considering the adverse weather conditions we have had to contend with since the beginning of the week, we can be very pleased to have held three of the four planned races. “So a huge compliment to Konrad Stauder from the Race Center Sarntal for his excellent work again,” praised FIS race director Markus Waldner.
