First diagnosis: This Shiffrin message gives hope

Mikaela Shiffrin fell badly on the descent from Cortina d'Ampezzo on Friday and had to be rescued by helicopter. What about the best female skier of all time?

The ski world took its breath away on Friday: Mikaela Shiffrin fell into the safety net at full speed on the descent from Cortina d'Ampezzo and had to be taken away by helicopter. For minutes it was as quiet as a mouse in the Italian winter sports resort - also because Shiffrin remained lying there for a long time. As she stood up, she was unable to put any weight on her left leg and somehow dragged herself away from the runway, where she was rescued by a helicopter.

Should the World Cup circus lose the next prominent name? There is still no definitive answer to this question. However, Shiffrin gave her fans reason for hope with a WhatsApp message. In the US ski team's group chat, the 95-time World Cup winner wrote: "Everything is okay."

The screenshot was published by the US team, which later also gave an update. According to initial examinations, the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in the left knee are intact. The ski world is breathing a sigh of relief – at least slightly, because there is still no definitive diagnosis.
