“Last November, when I started training again after my knee injury, I noticed that this sport no longer fulfilled me as much as it used to,” announced the 25-year-old Styrian. “My activism is not the reason for my resignation.” Schütter competed in 60 European Cup races and finished third on the podium once, and he competed eleven times in the World Cup.
“I realized that it no longer seemed desirable for me to have a classic racing career and retire at 35 or 40,” said Schütter, explaining the reasons for ending his career. The persistent disc problems and the long list of injuries in the World Cup showed him once again how much he was risking his physical health. “I struggled with myself for a long time and now decided that it was no longer worth it to me.”
