She's back: Shiffrin back on the slopes

Mikaela Shiffrin has taken the next step on the way to a comeback.

The exceptional US skier posted a video on Wednesday (local time) showing her on her first day of skiing since her injury on a relatively flat public slope. "The test on snow was successful. We did three runs - nothing crazy but it was a lot of fun," said Shiffrin.

What this means for the return date to the World Cup is not yet certain. The World Championships, the highlight of the winter season in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, begin at the beginning of February. The technical races will take place on February 13 (giant slalom) and February 15 (slalom). Shiffrin has already won 14 World Championship medals, including seven gold medals.

Bad fall in November

Shiffrin fell in Killington (USA) at the end of November on her way to her 100th World Cup victory and suffered a severe stab wound in the stomach. Since her recovery did not initially go as hoped, the 29-year-old had to undergo surgery in mid-December.

Shiffrin reported that fluid was removed and a torn muscle near the pelvis was treated. She had not seemed very confident about being able to return to the World Cup this season. Shiffrin currently has 99 World Cup victories.
