Ski stars back from South America: “It was a beautiful winter”

The summer training camp of Italy's ski aces in South America is coming to an end. In a few hours, Dominik Paris & Co. will be back in Europe. Gianluca Rulfi, the technical director of the Italian national ski team, draws a positive conclusion.

The training conditions in South America were ideal. The depths of winter and – which is by no means the norm in Ushuaia – almost perfect weather conditions characterized the Azzurri's training camp in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego. "Because the weather was good, we had 10 more training days than last year. That's no small feat," says a delighted Gianluca Rulfi, adding: "It was a beautiful South American winter."

Italy's elite group of skiers have been training in Ushuaia since the end of August. Rulfi is satisfied with the progress made during the training camp: "Brignine showed good runs, including in the downhill. Curtoni has made some steps forward and Bassino is in good mental shape again. The young downhill skiers have also done their job well."

A bitter disappointment, however, was the injury to Nicol Delago. The Val Gardena native had to recover from a training fall and a resulting undergo surgery for the resulting collarbone fracture.

Speed men return home from Chile

The men's speed group was also in South America, although not Argentina. Christof Innerhofer & Co. trained in La Parva, Chile. Dominik Paris, on the other hand, was in Ushuaia and La Parva. The Ultner was able to train separately with his coaching team, which is why he was first in Ushuaia and then in Chile.

The technical specialists around Alex Vinatzer have also returned. After the training camp in South America, the slalom and giant slalom racers are now travelling to Saas Fee. From Monday, October 2nd, the technicians will train in Switzerland. The women's technical group, however, will remain in Ushuaia until the beginning of October. After returning from South America, there will be a few days' break before dry training continues. In mid-October, preparations for the World Cup opening in Sölden (October 26th and 27th) are scheduled.
