Unlucky skier: A baby is supposed to give him wings

The new ski season is just around the corner. This means the long wait is coming to an end for many stars. Finally it's about World Cup points again. A German ski hero relies on a special lucky charm.

Thomas Dreßen has experienced many ups and downs in his career. A high was certainly on January 20, 2018, when he won the legendary downhill in Kitzbühel. Meanwhile, the past few years can be described as lows. First a torn cruciate ligament, then a hip injury, finally a muscle injury – the Bavarian barely skied for around two and a half years. But now Dreßen feels fit again and wants to attack next winter.

The 29-year-old will be accompanied by a special lucky charm. Dreßen became a father for the first time in the summer. Little Elena was born at the end of June. “It gave me a really big boost in terms of motivation,” the speed specialist told him SID. His daughter is “a dream, she is well-behaved, she sleeps, you could have two or more of her,” said Dreßen.

Little Elena pushed the ski star to peak performance back in the summer. “When my wife Birgit stops by the weight room with her daughter while training, it gives me a boost. Then I have a change in my head,” says Dreßen. It's clear: Little Elena should give the 2018 Kitzbühel winner wings.
