The entire skiing world mourns Matilde Lorenzi

The death of Matilde Lorenzi shocked the entire skiing world. We have collected some reactions.

The death of the 19-year-old after a training fall in the Schnalstal caused horror among numerous active and former ski stars. Mikaela Shiffrin, Sofia Goggia and Lindsey Vonn also spoke out. The winter sports association FIS and Italy's defense minister Guido Crosetto expressed their condolences to the relatives of the army athlete, who was considered a great talent. She became national champion in the previous season after competing at European Cup and FIS level.


"So much love for her family, friends and teammates," Shiffrin commented on the FIS Instagram post. Lindsey Vonn, who is due to make a comeback soon, stressed: "This is a tragic loss. Sending my thoughts to her family." The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) also expressed its condolences to Lorenzi's family, her friends "and all those who loved Matilde and will always remember her."

Goggia published a candle on social media with the inscription "a prayer". Cornelia Hütter, Michelle Gisin, Luca De Aliprandini, Atle Lie McGrath, Petra Vlhova, Hannes Reichelt, Victoria Rebensburg, Linus Strasser and Anja Pärson: the whole skiing world really sent a message to Lorenzi. Laura Pirovano wrote: "You will follow us every step of the way and be there at every turn." Elisa Platino, on the other hand, said: "You will always remain in our hearts." One thing is certain: the sudden death of the young teammate will leave the Italian ski team in mourning for a long time to come.
