Austria's top biathlete pulls the ripcord

Former podium candidate Felix Leitner ended his Biathlon World Cup season early after persistently poor results.

Instead of the Tyrolean, Dominic Unterweger was included in the ÖSV squad for Oslo. In the overall World Cup, Leitner is 35th, the second best Austrian behind “oldie” Simon Eder (30th). At Holmenkollen, the first stop after Austria's medalless World Cup in Nove Mesto, six competitions are on the program from Thursday.

The ÖSV women can expect a lot, not least because of the promising World Cup final in the mass start. “We did well at the World Cup right up to the end and so I think we can still show good performances at the end of the season,” said head coach Markus Fischer.

The sixth and seventh places of Lisa Hauser and Anna Gandler in the World Cup mass start are promising in view of the three remaining competition weekends. After Oslo's successful World Cup premiere, Fischer nominated Lea Rothschopf from Salzburg for the World Cup for the first time.
