The Wierer bang: the Olympics instead of the end of his career

Dorothea Wierer is the best biathlete that has ever existed in South Tyrol and Italy. But recently there has been wild speculation about the future of the woman from Niederrasner: Will “Doro” stop or will she continue? Now the 34-year-old's decision is made.

The biathlon world watched excitedly on Wednesday for the online press conference held by Dorothea Wierer. The woman from Niederrasner wanted to reveal the secret about her future to dozens of media representatives. Wierer dropped the bombshell: “I’m not done yet and I’m not going to stop. Instead, I’ll continue until the 2026 Olympics!”

A piece of news that is likely to cause some people to jump for joy in the biathlon scene. Because Wierer is not only an exceptional athlete, but also a major figurehead for the entire scene. A figurehead who recently went through difficult times. Because the 34-year-old from Puster was constantly ill last winter, she canceled her season after the World Championships in Nove Mesto. Since then, there has been repeated speculation about a possible end to his career.

“I don’t want to regret it later.” Dorothea Wierer

But Wierer is now putting a stop to this. “I want to clear up the rumors that have been doing the rounds recently. It would be a shame to stop after such a winter. That’s why I’ve now started my project for the Winter Games,” said Wierer.

The temptation of Antholz is too great

The woman from Puster emphasizes that the Olympic races in Antholz were the decisive reason why she continued: “Competing in these competitions on your own doorstep is an opportunity that only very few have. I don't want to regret later not having continued this year and a half." At the same time, Wierer also emphasizes: "After the 2026 Olympics, it will definitely be over for me."
