Again: Lukas Hofer has to go under the knife

Luki Hofer is lying on the hospital bed as him SportNews reached on Friday evening. “I'm still a bit dizzy from the general anesthesia,” the 32-year-old from Puster can smile again. The biathlete had to undergo a surgical procedure for the second time in just a few weeks. The shoulder was always affected. “I struggled with pain in my left shoulder throughout last season,” explains Hofer. “That meant I had to take painkillers and have injections throughout the winter. That's why I couldn't always perform to my full potential. When the season was over, I had an operation immediately on March 29th.” The operation took place in Zurich by Philipp Moroder, a South Tyrolean specialist from St. Lorenzen, Hofer’s home town. Specifically, the problem was osteoarthritis. “A basic cleaning was carried out on the shoulder joint,” says Hofer. “I am positive that I can start the new season pain-free.” Lukas hofer Even then, Doctor Moroder examined Hofer's other shoulder and also diagnosed osteoarthritis. “But as long as I wasn’t in pain, I didn’t need any intervention. But when I started summer training, the same problem gradually crept in. I've been training in Sweden for the past two weeks and decided that I would also have an operation on my right side." After his return from Scandinavia, Hofer immediately drove to Zurich, where after a detailed examination it was decided to have a surgical procedure make. This took place on Friday. Back on the bike in ten days What's next for Hofer? “It takes seven to ten days for the scar on the shoulder to heal. After that I can start training again. First it's cycling and if everything goes according to plan, I'll soon be able to go back to roller skiing. Because I'm currently taking a break from training anyway, I'm not losing much," says Hofer happily, adding: "I'm positive that I can start the new season pain-free."
