Now it's getting exciting: Vittozzi scores important points

Lisa Vittozzi started the trail 29,1 seconds behind Justine Braisez-Bouchet from France, with the overall World Cup leader Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold and Lou Jeanmonnot in between. In the pursuit in Soldier Hollow (USA), the athletes who will also choose the crystal ball among themselves were considered for the day's victory. After fourth place in the sprint, Vittozzi had only one motto: full attack. With an extremely strong performance, the Azzurra then moved from fourth place to second place, only having to narrowly admit defeat to Jeanmonnot from France in the final sprint. Julia Simon (+1.01,0 minutes), who started in 7th place, came third.

What was at stake demonstrated the tension and pressure that accompanied this pursuit. Important points were at stake and Lisa Vittozzi knew the importance of a top position so late in the season. The 29-year-old had become one of the best shooters over the course of the winter and her current accuracy put her in an excellent starting position (1 mistake) in the pursuit to win the day and with a view to the overall ranking. While her rivals from France and Norway placed their cartridges left and right of the target (Tandrevold and Braisaz-Bouchet with 6 errors each), Vittozzi went into the final round together with Lou Jeanmonnot.

That's where poker started. Both runners knew that the victory of the day only went through the other. The Azzurra attacked in the final corners, but was no match for the strong Frenchwoman in the final sprint. Nevertheless: This second place ensured that Lisa Vittozzi is back in the fight for the crystal ball. Especially because Braisaz-Bouchet in 7th place (+1.25,2 minutes) and Tandrevold in 11th place (+1.54,0 minutes) left behind enormously important points.

An exciting finale is guaranteed Lisa Vittozzi overtook Braisaz-Bouchet in the standings and is now in second place in the overall standings with three races to go before the end of the season, 2 points behind Tandrevold. The next stage takes place at the final weekend in Canmore (Canada) with the sprint on Thursday (73:17.40 p.m.). Anything is still possible in the last 3 races of the season.

The other Azzurre had less to celebrate. Samuela Comola came in 21st (+2.57,8), Michaela Carrara in 32nd (+3.41,0), Beatrice Trabucchi was 35th (+3.58,1), while the two South Tyroleans Hannah Auchentaller (45/+4.47,0 ) and Rebecca Passler (49/+5.12,7) were at the bottom of the rankings.
