Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof: These South Tyroleans are there

On the edge of the training camp in Ridnaun Valley (Click here for the video) Sports director Klaus Höllrigl revealed the secret about the nominations. A total of four biathletes from South Tyrol will be there. However, there is still a question mark behind whether Lukas Hofer will be deployed . The Montaler will most likely compete at the IBU Cup in Obertilliach on Saturday and will decide whether he will take part in the World Championships after the weekend.

From an azure perspective, the women's team includes Dorothea Wierer, Lisa Vittozzi, Samuela Comola, Hannah Auchentaller and Rebecca Passler. Wierer and Vittozzi are among the big medal favorites in Oberhof. Italy's model athletes can expect great chances right from the start of the mixed relay. The young South Tyroleans Passler and Auchentaller will make their World Cup debut in Oberhof. Both of them will certainly not only be traveling to East Germany to gain experience, after all Passler has already been on the podium twice this year with the women's relay team.

The men's squad, however, consists of four athletes: Tommaso Giacomel, Didier Bionaz, Elia Zeni and Patrick Braunhofer from Ridnaun. As mentioned above, there is still a question mark behind Lukas Hofer's commitment. Overall, the Azzurri can travel to Oberhof with plenty of optimism. Vittozzi, Wierer & Co. have already achieved 13 podium places this winter. For the men, the hopes in the individual races rest on Giacomel, who can be expected to achieve his first podium finish at the World Championships.
