The “Gsieser” once again attracts numerous stars

Two members of the Italian national team have recently decided to put the finishing touches to the “Gsieser” for the World Cup in Oslo, which begins three days later. One of them is Pietro Piller-Cottrer , who has never won in the Gsieser Valley. OK President Walter Felderer is also pleased about the commitment from Roland Clara . This year, the man from Bruneck finished the Tour de Ski in fifth place and won the bronze medal at the Italian Championships in Gressoney.

Christian Zorzi will also be there. In contrast to Piller-Cottrer, Zorzi excelled at the “Gsieser” back in 1999. With Tom Reichelt comes an athlete who has already won in the Casies Valley in 2008 and 2009. The German, 12th in the Tour de Ski this year, is definitely aiming for his third victory. Only Alfred Runggaldier and Marco Cattaneo had achieved this before him.

Well-known athletes such as Magda Genuin, Maria Canins, Eugenia Bitchougova, Mikhail Botvinov, Silvio Fauner, Anders Aukland and Thomas Steurer have entered the roll of honor for the Gsieser Valley Run. Cross-country skiing legend Björn Daehlie was also at the start. One of the winners is too Be Einar Björndalen . The Norwegian is also coming to Casies on February 19th and 20th.

Last year, almost 2500 cross-country skiers of all abilities populated the Casies Valley. Compared to the same period last year, registrations this year have increased by 26 percent. The trails have recently been improved with over 7000 m3 of artificially produced snow. Now the organizers are hoping for additional white splendor from above. Thanks to the winter temperatures that have now returned, the trails are in perfect condition, much to the delight of the many cross-country skiers.

In the meantime, registrations for the 28th edition are ongoing: the entry fee remains reduced until January 31st. The “classic” costs 44,50 euros; participants have to pay 45 euros to start in the skating race. Anyone who takes part in both races and thus in the combined classification pays 73 euros.

Not only the number of participants in the Gsieser Valley Run is impressive, but also the numbers relating to food. If you line up the apple strudel that was eaten last year at the “Gsieser Vier-STAR-MEN” restaurant, you get 250 meters. But that's not enough. Last year, 150 kg of citrus fruits, 200 kg of bananas, 120 kg of dried fruits, 8000 pieces of glucose, 4000 isotonic drinks, 1000 liters of vegetable broth, 8000 cups of fear, 3000 Marlene apples and 350 kg of young pork fillet were consumed at the five refreshment points.
