Bravura performance: Frangipani also impresses in the freestyle

Gabriele Frangipani will remember this European Championship forever: Although she narrowly missed out on a medal in the end, the 22-year-old was happy about the best result of his young career.

The European Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania was the fourth for Gabriele Frangipani. So far, a ninth place in 2022 was the best result. The man from Bolzano improved this significantly on Friday: After being awarded the fourth best score in the short program, he also showed a very good performance in the free skate. He only had to let his compatriot Matteo Rizzo pass, but overtook the Swiss Lukas Britschgi and thus confirmed fourth place.

Frangipani gave the audience an (almost) perfect performance. Only at the beginning did he only turn around his own axis three instead of four times during a toe loop. This was his downfall because he showed too many triple jumps throughout the entire program. One attempt was therefore removed from the ranking. Nevertheless, in the end he scored a strong 162,58 points. This is only around four points below his best value, which he set in China in November 2023. The overall score was also more than impressive at 246,09 points.

Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa, who was already in the lead after the short program, took the win. In the free skate, the reigning European champion lived up to his role as favorite and won with 276,17 points. Behind him, Alexander Selevko from Estonia (256,99) took the silver medal. Rizzo (250,87) moved up three places to finish third. He benefited from the uncleanliness of the Swiss Britschgi, who was still in second place at half time. Maurizio Zandron from Bolzano, who competed for Austria, improved by five places in the free skate and finished the competition in 17th place.
