Freestyle World Cup: Switzerland and Norway celebrate in Bakuriani

The sun was shining and the athletes were in a great mood. In Bakuriani, the best freestylers in the world showed off their most spectacular tricks to win the coveted World Championship medals. In the end, Mathilde Gremaud and Birk Ruud celebrated precious metal in slopestyle.

A year ago she won Olympic gold in Beijing, and now the Swiss Mathilde Gremaud has been crowned slopestyle world champion. At the World Championships in Bakuriani, the 23-year-old exceptional athlete showed an extremely strong first run (87.95 points), which none of her competitors were able to surpass in a row. Gremaud was already confirmed as world champion before her second attempt. Megan Oldham (Canada), who took silver, just missed the top value with a good second run (87.75). The dominator of the current season, Johanne Killi (Norway), had to rely on her first attempt (84.71) because she risked everything and fell in the second. Nevertheless, it was enough for the 25-year-old to take bronze.

Ruud prevents the big surprise In the men's category, the Norwegian Christian Nummedal missed out on the big sensation. The 27-year-old has been at the forefront of freestyle for a long time, but this season he never made it into the top 10 in slopestyle competitions. However, after a botched first attempt, Nummedal bombed in the snow. With 87.08 points he placed at the top of the intermediate rankings. The eventual bronze medalist Andri Ragettli from Switzerland also struggled with this (84.33).

But then the outstanding Birk Ruud went to the demanding Bakuriani course. After the first run in 4th place, the Norwegian put everything on one card - and conjured up an outstanding 90.75 points and the World Championship gold medal. After winning gold at the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Norwegian proved his supremacy in the slopestyle category. However, his compatriot Nummedal was visibly happy with silver.
