Exactly two months ago to the day, Karoline Pichler started her career, which was marked by World Cup appearances, European Cup victories but also injuries Ski careers ended. The 5-year-old from Petersberg was given a fitting farewell at the 29th winter sports festival in Auer. “I'm excited about what's to come. I just want to say thank you to everyone here again,” said Pichler, who will be turning her back on ski racing completely in the future.

Pichler was honored on stage by South Tyrol's CONI President Alex Tabarelli, Markus Ortler, the President of the South Tyrolean Winter Sports Association, and Rainer Senoner. The latter, head of the organizing committee of the Val Gardena Ski World Cup, also accepted the congratulations the contract for the 2031 World Ski Championships which South Tyrol's winter sports stronghold received a few days ago at the FIS Congress in Iceland.

Big stage for young talent

However, the winter sports festival organized by the Winter Sports Association (FISI) and the Auer Ski Club was not only about active and former top athletes such as the present Marion Oberhofer (tobogganing overall World Cup winner) or Silvia Bertagna (former freestyle Olympic participant). The focus was particularly on young people: in front of several hundred guests, the “Rookies of the Year” and, traditionally, all winners of the junior racing series in a wide range of winter sports categories were awarded for the first time. In addition, the clubs with the most points were awarded according to the funding system.
