Insam plays among the world elite

The Norwegian ski jumper Johann Andre Forfang won the World Cup in Willingen with a hill record. But Alex Insam also knew how to convince.

The 26-year-old is having the best season of his career this year. Insam ended up in the points in Willingen for the eighth time - even though he failed his first jump of 130,5 m. With a bit of luck, the Wolkensteiner made it to the second round, where he showed his full potential and gained nine places thanks to a jump of 138,5 m. In the end, Insam finished 16th. Another competition is scheduled for Sunday in Willingen. Then Insam wants to attack the top 10 for the first time this season.

There was no way around Forfang at the front. The 28-year-old flew at 144 and 155,5 meters on Saturday in constant rain and celebrated his victory with tears in his eyes in front of over 23 ski jumping fans. The Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi completed the podium ahead of the Norwegian Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal. After the first round, Finn Antti Aalto was surprisingly in the lead with a jump of 000 meters. But after the second jump he fell back to 147,5th place at just 128 meters.

Surprisingly, the Austrian overall World Cup leader Stefan Kraft (39th) was eliminated after just one jump of 122 meters. This was the first time he missed the second round this season. “Ski jumping happens quickly when the conditions are difficult. I have to swallow that today. It doesn’t help,” said the 30-year-old.
