The best ski crossers in the Pustertal: The program is set

A unique venue deserves a special date: no wonder then that the Ski Cross World Cup in San Candido takes place just before Christmas every year. Further appointment details have now been announced.

This year, the stars of the scene such as world champion and local hero Simone Deromedis or record hunter Sandra Näslund from Sweden will race over the perfectly prepared Haunold on Thursday, December 21st and Friday, 22nd and once again engage in thrilling duels with the competition.

This is the 14th time that the “Formula 1 of skiing” is coming to the 3 Zinnen Dolomite region. The renowned races in South Tyrol have long been a classic of this Olympic sport, which is particularly popular in Scandinavia, overseas, but also in France and Switzerland.

Second Italian stop in Alleghe

In South Tyrol and the rest of Italy, ski cross still has some catching up to do in terms of spectator interest, but the world championship title won by Simone Deromedis in February 2023 could significantly contribute to a growing presence. The fact that Alleghe will be a second Italian destination in the FIS World Cup calendar in the coming 2023/24 season certainly does not harm this trend. Just like the fact that the next Winter Olympics will take place in Milan and Cortina in 2026.

But back to San Candido: The program for the South Tyrolean stage was approved a few weeks ago at the FIS autumn meetings in Zurich and includes a training day on Monday, December 18th. Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th are all about the qualifying runs. The races, which will also be broadcast live worldwide this year, are scheduled for Thursday, December 21st (from 11.45 a.m.) and Friday, December 22nd (from 12 p.m.).

“The preparations in the background have already started and the anticipation within our team is huge. We can hardly wait to welcome the best ski crossers in the world to the 3 Peaks Dolomite region in a month and a half. For many of them, the races in San Candido are the highlight of the season - on the one hand because of our technically demanding slopes and on the other hand because of our hospitality. “That honors us and at the same time encourages us to offer these top athletes the best possible conditions on and off the Haunold piste again this season,” concludes Gabriel Fauster from the organizing WSV Innichen.
