Nadya Ochner is quitting and will soon be leaving the Snowboard World Cup.

Completely surprising: South Tyrol's best snowboarder is quitting

Nadya Ochner announced her retirement from winter sports on Monday evening. However, she wants to know it again just once again on Thursday in Carezza/Karerpass.

Nadya Ochner dropped a bombshell on social media on Monday evening: She is quitting as a professional athlete. After Snowboard World Cup in Carezza, which takes place on Thursday, the woman from Burgstal wants to turn her back on the sport. This means that South Tyrol and Italy are losing an important winter sports athlete of recent years.

"Bye...that's it, that's all". This is how the South Tyrolean began her emotional post on social media. In it she spoke about her love for snowboarding and the gratitude she has for this sport, parallel snowboarding. Ochner also invited all her fans to attend her last performance on Thursday in Carezza, where she wants to collect good memories for the last time in the World Cup.

The timing of the announcement before the start of the season in Carezza definitely seems tight. But Ochner explained her decision as follows: “The first race of the season is on Thursday... and for me it will be the last race of my career. It's time to say goodbye to the world of racing. I do this with serenity because the fire that has always driven me has slowly gone out. I realized that “that moment” has now come for me.”

A farewell as world champion

Not even a year ago, on February 22, 2023, Ochner achieved the greatest triumph of her career. Together with Aaron March, the 30-year-old was crowned world champion in the team event in Bakuriani (Georgia). She beamed and posed with the precious metal for the photographers and celebrated the highlight of her career. Otherwise, the Burgstaller was happy about a World Cup victory in the individual (December 13, 2018 parallel giant slalom on Karerpass/Carezza) and three World Cup victories in the team event. She has been part of snowboarding since 2010.
