Just one day after the fabulous triumph of the South Tyrolean old master Roland Fischnaller The azure blue snowboarders had their next big chance to win the World Cup in Krynica on Sunday. Maurizio Bormolini fought his way to the final of the parallel giant slalom in southern Poland - and was defeated there in dramatic fashion by the Austrian Andreas Prommegger. The 31-year-old from Lombardy was still in the lead after the first two intermediate times, holding a lead of around three tenths of a second. In the final act, however, Prommegger had better timing and beat the Italian by 0,06 seconds.
Bormolini, however, has probably quickly gotten over the missed victory. After all, just one day after winning the small crystal globe in the parallel giant slalom, he has now also secured an early victory in the parallel overall ranking. With one race to go, he can no longer be caught by his competitors, including Prommegger (850) and fellow countryman Daniele Bagozza (699).
Setback for Fischnaller after victory
A total of five Azzurri made it to the knockout phase. Bagozza was defeated in the quarter-finals by Bormolini, while Mirko Felicetti was eliminated in the same round by Tervel Zamfirov. The South Tyrolean Aaron March had already been defeated by the Bulgarian in the first round. Edwin Coratti, meanwhile, was eliminated early on by the Slovenian Tim Mastnak. Fischnaller suffered a setback just one day after his victory and failed in the qualification (19th), a fate shared by Gabriel Messner (17th) and Fabian Lantschner (47th).Edit Profile
