Daniele Bagozza consoles herself with a victory

The World Cup season for parallel snowboarders has been history since Sunday. At the end there was a victory with South Tyrolean participation – and it was like balm for the soul.

Daniele Bagozza became a tragic hero at the World Cup finals for parallel snowboarders. On Saturday he had a great chance to secure the small crystal ball in the parallel slalom. But the Val Gardena native failed to qualify and had to let the South Korean Sangho Lee overtake him at the last minute (SportNews reported). Very bitter for Bagozza, who was unable to crown the best season of his career.

The 28-year-old consoled himself on Sunday. At the end of the Snowboard World Cup, a mixed parallel giant slalom was on the program. Together with Lucia Dalmasso, Bagozza got his frustration off his chest and took victory. On their way to the final, the two Azzurri also eliminated Italy's second duo, Elisa Caffont and Maurizio Bormolini.

A great Bagozza season

In the final, Bagozza and Dalmasso met Slovenia's Zan Kosir/Gloria Kotnik. It was a close affair, but in the end the Azzurri were six hundredths of a second faster. Third place went to Bromolini and Caffont, who had the upper hand in the small final against Germany 3 (Elias Huber/Cheyenne Loch).

Even though Bagozza missed the small crystal ball in the parallel slalom, it was a season of superlatives. He won a total of four World Cup races (three of which were individual races) and climbed onto the podium in two more. Since this winter at the latest, the people of Val Gardena have been among the absolute world class in parallel snowboarding.
