Golden conclusion: March and Ochner are world champions!

It was a World Cup that had not had a good star so far. On the one hand there was bad weather, strong wind and a World Cup slope, which presented itself in an undignified condition. On the other hand, the South Tyroleans, who are otherwise so used to success, had a lot of problems this time and had nothing to do with the medal decisions. Until, yes, until this last World Championship race came. In the team event, of all things, the knot broke and Aaron March and Nadya Ochner were crowned world champions. The two South Tyroleans entered the race as “Italy 2”, the nominally stronger pairing being Maurizio Bormolini and Lucia Dalmasso, both of whom have already competed in the World Cup this season. But in the end it was only enough for the Azzurri to finish fourth, while March and Ochner put on the really big show. Victory in a direct duel and against the big favorites The 36-year-old from Völs and the 29-year-old from Burgstaller were already strong in the first knockout rounds and confidently eliminated the competing duos. In the semi-finals there was a direct duel with Italy 1, which the South Tyroleans also won. So it was time for the big final, in which March/Ochner met Austria 1. The South Tyroleans were stark outsiders against the newly crowned parallel slalom world champion Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Schöffmann (she won bronze in the parallel slalom). But then March started like a fire engine and crossed the finish line with a lead of 0,74 seconds over Prommegger. Ochner subsequently lost some of this lead, but fired up the turbo at the finish and secured the world title. The fact that the race was on the verge of regularity due to the massive gusts of wind and poor visibility didn't dampen the joy. The first World Cup medals It is the first World Cup medal for both March and Ochner. A wonderful success, especially for the Burgstall native: Due to a long-term ankle injury, she didn't get back into racing until mid-January, and a month later she can call herself world champion.
