Fischlerler is unlucky in his second living room

Dominik Filehner started the new season in Lake Placid on Friday. The small winter sports resort in the northeast of the USA is where his girlfriend Emily lives. However, he did not help the overall World Cup winner to soar.

Dominik Filehner knows the train in Lake Placid like the back of his hand. He has already raced down there on his runners countless times, and just this summer he spent around two months at the US World Cup venue again. His performance in the first race of the season will probably annoy him all the more.

After the first single-seater round, Fiwickeler was in a promising fourth position, but in the decision he lost important hundredths and places. In the end, the best luger of the last World Cup season had to settle for seventh place.

Langenhan keeps Austrians in check

The German vice world champion Max Langenhan took the victory, extending his impressive run of success. After six wins in a row last season, the 24-year-old also won the first race of the winter. He prevailed with a lead of 0,446 seconds over the Austrians Jonas Müller and Nico Gleirscher.

Back to Filehner: His girlfriend Emily Sweeney will be competing in the women's single-seater on Saturday. Fischler himself will try to attack again in the sprint on Saturday before moving on to the next World Cup stop in Whistler, Canada. The same applies to the other South Tyroleans Leon Felderer (17th) and Alex Gufler (22nd), who placed outside the top 15 at the season opener.

The women's doubles were at the start a few hours before the men's singles. Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer impressed with third place.
