Patrick Pigneter: Bitterly disappointed - but it continues

The aftermath of missing the Winter Olympics for natural track tobogganing is still there. The association did not apply for inclusion in the 2 Olympic program around two years ago. The chance would have been great. “It was a goal for everyone. We were bitterly disappointed,” says the Völser. He has recently stopped traveling as a toboggan ambassador, but only for time reasons, after all, the Völser also works as a heating, ventilation and sanitary technician at home. In any case, recruiting young athletes is becoming more difficult. The whole movement suffered a significant setback.

“But you still have to try to find a way to keep going,” said the most successful natural track tobogganer of all time. Things will continue for him. While Greta Pinggera and Alex Gruber have ended their careers, Pigneter wants to know again. The big goal is to win the overall World Cup in the single-seater. In total he won it 11 times – from 2006 to 2016 in a row. Even though the now 36-year-old Pigneter has been waiting for the overall individual victory since 2016, he has proven in recent years that he can still be at the forefront. After four years without a win, he triumphed in Deutschnofen in January of this year. He also wants to break another record as soon as possible and celebrate his 50th individual World Cup victory as quickly as possible.

Pigneter also wants to win back a title in the doubles. Here he and his partner Florian Clara won the overall title a total of 13 times, most recently in 2021/2022. Last season, however, the duo had to admit defeat to the Villnöss toboggan brothers Patrick Lambacher and Matthias Lambacher.

Pigneter has already celebrated his greatest private victory. In May of this year he married his Claudia. Claudia Boito and the toboggan ace met in January 2020 at the Christmas market in Brunico. The two have a lot in common, including their love of sports. Even if the woman of his dreams is not an active athlete herself, joint sporting activities are a must, such as hiking in the mountains, cycling tours and much more. But relaxing was on the agenda for the honeymoon in Greece.
