Coronation: Kühtai to host the 2025 World Cup

In December 2023, the new natural toboggan run in Kühtai (AUT) passed its baptism of fire with the World Cup premiere. Now comes the crowning moment: At its most recent meeting, the Executive Board of the International Luge Federation FIL unanimously chose Kühtai as the venue for the 2025 Natural Track Luge World Championships.

) The International Luge Federation FIL is working hard on preparations for the 2024/2025 season in the natural track luge World Cup. The highlight will be the 2025 World Championships. After the successful World Cup premiere in December of last year, the Tyrolean Luge Association and the RC Kühtai-Sellraintal with President Marco Holzknrecht are ready for the big coup. From January 17-19, 2025, the new world champions in the women's singles, men's singles, doubles and team competitions will be determined on the "Kühtai" natural toboggan run, which was completed in summer 2021.

The winter sports resort of Kühtai (AUT) has shaped the FIL World Cup in natural track tobogganing in the past: In addition to numerous "classic" World Cups, a parallel race was also held in the former hunting grounds of Emperor Maximilian I, always on temporary race tracks, as there was no permanent toboggan run. The new, permanent toboggan run was designed and planned by experts from the Tyrolean Tobogganing Association (TRV) and the Austrian Tobogganing Association (ÖRV) and is considered a showcase project - because the track serves both recreational and elite sport. The "Kühtai" natural toboggan run is around 1300 meters long and starts at the "Graf-Ferdinand-Haus" ski hut at 2.120 meters above sea level. The finish is at 1.980 meters at the "Kühtai" high-altitude performance center in the middle of the ski area. Only the lower part is used as a toboggan run - vacationers, however, can use the entire track.

As part of the World Championships, it is also planned to present the grassroots sport project of the International Luge Federation FIL. Among other things, luge builders will be on site and will inform anyone interested about the sport of luge. The first winners in December 2023 were Evelin Lanthaler (ITA), Patrick Pigneter (ITA) and Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher (ITA), but at the 2025 World Championships all eyes will be on local hero Riccarda Ruetz (AUT).
